Winds will start to pick up again today, expect a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
The weekend looks even windier with gusts to 60 MPH on Saturday and then on Sunday winds could be gusting to 80 MPH. Snow will also be moving in late on Saturday and by Monday we could see 1-2 feet of fresh powder out on Mammoth Mountain.
The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Watch, travel from Saturday night into Sunday is not recommended at this time. Carry chains and know how to use them, you will need them starting Saturday night if you’re not in a 4 x 4.
Snow conditions: the mountain has some really fun groomed out packed powder on about 2000 acres of terrain today. Off the groomed it’s a fun skier and rider packed out snow surface.
Today as the winds pick up we will starting getting the wind buffing effect with all that fun sugar snow blowing around the hill.
Up on the hill the base at Main is at the 210-inch mark, with over 350 inches over the top of the mountain. All lifts will be open today and Saturday wind and weather permitting.
Snowman hurt his back so no fresh images or videos yet this week. Let’s hope he can get out there today Friday and get us some new pictures to look at.
